What to do on 27th July, the day of the longest lunar eclipse
On the night of 27th July 2018, the world is going to witness the longest lunar eclipse (Chandra garahan) of the century. A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes directly behind Earth and into its shadow. This can occur only when the Sun, Moon and the Earth are all aligned in a straight pathway closely. However, it can occur only on a full moon day. The eclipse will be visible in India.
During a total lunar eclipse, the earth blocks direct sunlight reaching the moon. The only light that reflects from the surface is refracted (change of direction) by the earth’s atmosphere, this light tends to appear reddish and thus is called the Blood Moon.
At the time of eclipse the Moon will be located in the Capricorn and the Uttarataradhara constellation. This eclipse will appear in the central and eastern part of Asia, Africa, Europe, Central and Eastern South America, except Antarctica, Australia, Northern part. Below is the complete information about the eclipse.
The lunar eclipse will start at 11:54 tonight. It will be midnight at 01:51 and its salvation will be on the night at 03:49. Therefore, the eclipse will be of 03 hours and 55 minutes, while its sutak, will start at 02:54 this afternoon. Further, the lunar eclipse will take place 09 hours before the eclipse begins.
During the eclipses, certain things should be kept in mind. Negativity is spread all over during eclipse, which also affects people living in the eclipse affected areas. Therefore, during sutak basil leaves should be kept in all the water in the utensil, in the water pot, milk and curd and after the eclipse ends, it should be thrown away. Apart from this, other things should be taken care of at the time of eclipse, no work related to kitchen at the time of eclipse, especially cooking must be avoided.
Pregnant women should take special care during this period. They should not do any kind of work. Instead they should worship by chanting Chandradev’s mantras in a strong voice. The chants of Chandradev are as follows:
