September 17 is celebrated Vishwakarma Puja every year. On this day Hindu god vishwakarma was born. He is also known as architect of gods.

It is believed that Lord Vishwakarma manufactured palaces and weapons for gods. Also known as the ‘God of Vastu Shastra’, the ‘First Engineer’, the ‘Engineer of the Gods’ and the ‘God of Machines’.

It is believed that the idols of Balabhadra, Subhadra and Lord Jagannath that are worshiped in the Puri temple in Odisha were likewise made by Vishwakarma. His devotees believe that he likewise made the Swarglok in Satya Yug, Lanka in Treta Yug, and Lord Krishna’s capital Dwarka in the Dwapar Yug.

Architects, woodworkers, engineers craftsmen, mechanics and assembly line laborers worship the Vishwakarma idol and his ‘vahan’, the elephant. Individuals clean and worship the machines and offices give equipment rest for the day.

The celebration is celebrated primarily in Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Assam, Jharkhand, Bihar, Tripura, and Odisha.​
